Luxardo was founded in 1821 in Zara (today Zadar, Croatia) by Girolamo Luxardo, who created the original Maraschino liqueur from Marasca cherries. After the Second World War the family rebuilt the company in Torreglia, near Padua, where it still grows its own Marasca cherry orchards. Luxardo is now run by the sixth generation.
